R.I.P Pop Vocal Legend Whitney Houston

1963: Born in Newark, N.J., on August 9.

1978: Sings background vocals on Chaka Khan’s “Every Woman.”

1980: First black woman to appear on the cover of Seventeen magazine.

1981: First television appearance on “The Merv Griffin Show,” introduced by Clive Davis.

1985: First solo album “Whitney Houston” debuts, first No. 1 hit “Saving All My Love For You.”

1987: Second album “Whitney,” hits No. 1 again with “I Wanna Dance With Somebody.”

1991: Reached the Top 20 on the Billboard Hot 100 with her rendition of the “Star Spangled Banner.”

1992: Married Bobby Brown.

2000: Security in a Hawaiian airport finds marijuana in her bag. The charges were dropped.
She fails to make scheduled appearance for Clive Davis’ induction into Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Fired from Academy Awards for erratic behavior. Rumors of drug use circulate.

2002: Sued for breach of contract for $100 million by her father’s company over recording contract fees, later dismissed.

In an interview with Diane Sawyer, she denies drug use, saying “Crack is cheap. I make too much money to ever smoke crack.”

2006: Whitney hits the cover of the National Enquirer with photos of her “drug den.”
Files for divorce from Brown.

2007: Brown sues for spousal and child support.

2009: Releases album “I Look to You,” admits to Oprah that she smoked marijuana laced with crack.
